I’ve been meaning to do so for a while but was spurred on yesterday by a BBC article that suggested that it was possible to crack WEP-secured networks within 2 minutes using the latest cracking software produced by Darmstadt University. The Darmstadt team now recommend that all wireless users switch to WPA.

Fairly straightforward to set up on my ADSL hub, and as WPA support exists already on Windows XP SP2, it was straightforward to set up on my Windows XP machines. I’ve given up getting my Windows 2000 machine to support wireless again – the wireless adapter doesn’t recognise my new hub anyway, so it’s got to be wired.

I’ve also changed the protocol from 802.11g to 802.11b to see if I can get better wireless coverage towards the back of the house. I’ll update in due course.
